A new model for fashion

Oshadi, pronounced oh-sh-dee means ‘essence of nature’ or ‘healing plant’ in Sanskrit. Our ‘Cultivating Hands’ logo symbolises and honours the craft and community in everything we create.

We began our journey in 2016 in Erode, south India as a fashion label, founded by Nishanth Chopra. Our mission to respect and regenerate the Earth has led us through every process that goes into creating clothing, starting from the soil and the seed. We are intimately involved with every step of the process from our cotton harvests; spinning and weaving; printing and dyeing, to cutting and sewing.

Today we are cultivating a new fashion system–one rooted in ancient Indian agricultural practices and artisan heritage, with a 250-acre regenerative cotton farm at its heart. We share what we have built with brands and designers whose values align with our simple ethos: to give back more than we take.

Our Values

WE CELEBRATE CRAFT AND COMMUNITY

From investing in local weaving communities to working with dyers, block printers, embroiderers and tailors, we value craftsmanship and respect the artisans we work with.

WE GIVE BACK MORE THAN WE TAKE

We grow nutrient rich plants and pollinators to restore the health of the soil alongside our cotton crops and in between harvests to promote biodiversity and improve the quality of the soil.

We are transparent in our working practices

We publish the pay of our entire team as well as the number of items of clothing we make. We are building resilient local communities who are fairly paid and work in conditions we are proud of.

We pay all of our full time workers a living wage

We publish all of our wages because it’s important that we are open and honest about this. We believe in dignity, and savings and futures for our employees and their families.

We live within our means

This means our materials and resources are all precious and we minimise waste wherever we can. We have systems in place to reuse ends of rolls to make new collections using creative processes such as overdyeing and embellishing to ensure everything is used. Scraps are used for applique motifs.

Nothing goes to waste

Since 2019 we’ve saved every scrap of cotton we’ve made. We recycle it for T-shirts and quilting, and even use our cotton lint to make paper for our swing tags and zines. We collect food and plant waste from surrounding villages to make compost which is distributed to all of our farmers to nourish their soil each season.

We work locally

All of our farms, spinners, dyers and weavers are within xx kilometres from our HQ in Erode. We even shoot our campaigns and lookbooks locally, reducing our carbon footprint. The longest distance any or our materials or products travel is from our HQ to your nearest store or your home.

We make timeless clothes that are designed to last

Our clothes are made with care and skill, using the highest quality materials so they will last for years to come. We give washing and care instructions to ensure they are looked after, and provide spare buttons in case they are needed.

We encourage repairs and mending where necessary

We use natural corozo buttons, natural rubber elastic and where possible, 100 per cent organic cotton thread. Our clothes are designed to be timeless and long lasting and we prioritise natural fibres Some garments require poly/cotton thread for durability so we strive to make our clothes as hard-wearing as possible, with minimal non-recyclable elements. Our naturally plant or mineral dyed, regenerative cotton can be safely composted at the end of its life.

The Oshadi Collective Partnering with brands and designers to improve their supply-chains

We partner with like-minded brands and designers to build supply chains that align with their ethical, environmental, and philosophical values.

Over the past 5 years, we’ve built a collective of farmers, spinners, weavers, knitters, printers, dyers, and tailors—blending indigenous techniques with modern sustainable manufacturing to create truly regenerative textiles and garments.
